Cheryl D’Sa was a speaker for “On the Path to Equity for Women in Law” on April 29th, 2022. The event was co-hosted by the International Association of Women Judges, the Law Society of British Columbia and the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch. The speakers explored topics related to pay equity, child and elder care, and retention of women, among other important topics.

Joven Narwal was counsel on R. v. Albashir & Mohsenipour, a landmark constitutional ruling from the Supreme Court of Canada which addressed for the first time the effect of being charged with an offence declared unconstitutional. In its ruling, the Court clarified that legislation is not immunized from challenge when there is a suspended declaration of invalidity; an accused person can avail of a remedy to avoid the application of the unconstitutional law through Section 24(1) of the Charter.
Joven Narwal was invited to speak at the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia Advanced Advocacy Conference on “Effective Cross-Examination”.
